NPFPs agree to adhere to all Netflix Technical Specifications, Delivery Specifications, and Style Guide Documentation (where applicable), as found within the Partner Help Center.
NPFPs must perform a minimum level of quality control checks on all material, which is outlined below. NPFPs must also source and deliver material in the highest quality format available including, but not limited to UHD/4K, Dolby Vision™ HDR, and Dolby Atmos® (fulfilled in accordance with our delivery specifications). If material is deemed insufficient to create Netflix deliverables, unless otherwise approved by Netflix, the material shall be rejected and noted in Source Management through the Fulfillment Partner Material Status workflow. Rejected source materials should prompt a discussion with the Content Partner and new materials should be sourced or existing material may need to be repaired in order to meet Netflix specifications. All fixes and redelivery of source material is included in the rates detailed above in the Rate Card. While some content may require more fixes than others, the Rate Card is designed to accommodate for all types of content. If strict adherence to the Scope of Work is performed, there should be a significant reduction in defective deliveries to Netflix.
Service Type
“Service Type” defines the type of work being performed on Timed Text or Secondary Audio assets delivered to Netflix. This includes creation or conformance. Each “Service Type” follows a distinct Scope of Work. Files cannot be delivered to Netflix without the “Service Type” being specified prior to delivery.
A/V File Based Material
A/V Tape Based Material
Timed Text - Conformance
Service Type = “Conform”
Korean Timed Text Conformance
30 Minutes | 60 Minutes | Feature Length |
$60.00 | $120.00 | $180.00 |
*Compensation covers all rounds of redeliveries for each asset
Timed Text - Origination
Service Type = “Create”
Timed Text assets which are generated exclusively through the means of machine-translation/origination are automatically deemed rejected.
Translations to be performed by a quality-tested, native, or bilingual translator on the IRL 5 level, see reference for full definition.
Proofing by a second, native-language translator to ensure accurate translation, spelling, grammar, punctuation, sync, and correct text positioning.
Adhere to our KNP Guidelines when creating subtitles.
If a partner is also responsible for creating dubs, the KNP needs to be consistent across asset types.
KNPs to be completed using the Netflix KNP Tool or Netflix KNP Template in accordance with instructions set forth in the KNP Guidelines.
Adhere to the appropriate Timed Text Style Guide for the language and asset type being created.
Technical QC and full manual QC to ensure files adhere to all Netflix Technical Specifications, Delivery Specifications, and Style Guide Documentation, as found within the Partner Help Center.
Verification of sync, including, but not limited to, a simple global offset. The file must be conformed to the Netflix Final Proxy available in Source Management.
The contents of the Timed Text file must be delivered to match the title of the source request and the contents of the corresponding Netflix Final Proxy associated with that source request.
Alternate Audio - Conformance
Service Type = “Conform”
Pre-qualify the source material and confirm workability to achieve adherence to the Licensed Netflix Specification. If material is workable, the material status state in Backlot shall be updated to “Accepted”. If the source material is not workable, the material status state in Backlot shall be “Rejected”.
Use of an approved Assistive QC tool to detect silence, audio labelling and dual mono audio where appropriate. Defects identified in the Auto/Assistive QC pass must be verified during the Manual Spot QC.
Manual Spot QC of Alternate Audio must include checks detailed in the Secondary Audio Manual QC Checklist. At minimum, the following 5 points must be included in the spot check:
First 2 minutes of program or through opening credits (whichever is longer)
1 minute at 25% into the program
1 minute at 50% into the program
1 minute at 75% into the program
Last 2 minutes of program including end credits.
Simple global offset needed to conform to the Netflix Final Proxy available in Source Management.
If an NPFP finds significant issues with the file, they should go back to the Content Partner to share their findings. Ask for a new file or proceed with a full linear QC of the supplied file and make all necessary fixes. Simple, minor fixes should be completed without concession. Minor issue examples being channel tagging, conforming head & tail/duration to the Netflix final proxy, file format changes, etc.
For any Audio Description services, delivery of Audio Description script in .csv format is mandatory to fulfill Audio Description orders.
Alternate Audio - Origination
Service Type = “Create”
The full scope of work required for originating dubbed audio when using final assets is defined in the Dubbing Scope of Work.
Technical QC and full manual QC to ensure files adhere to all Netflix Technical Specifications, Delivery Specifications, and Style Guide Documentation, as found within the Partner Help Center.
Adhere to the appropriate Audio Style Guide for the asset and dubbing style being requested.
Use of an approved Assistive QC tool to detect silence, audio labelling and dual mono audio where appropriate.
The contents of the Alternate Audio file must be delivered to match the title of the source request and the contents of the corresponding Netflix Final Proxy associated with that source request.
For any Audio Description services, delivery of Audio Description script in .csv format is mandatory to fulfill Audio Description orders.
Forced Narratives (Conformance)
Service Type = “Conform”
Pre-qualify the source material and confirm workability to achieve adherence to the Licensed Netflix Specification. If material is workable, the material status state in Backlot shall be updated to “Accepted”. If the source material is not workable, the material status state in Backlot shall be “Rejected”.
Adhere to all steps outlined in the Scope of Work for Timed Text - Conformance.
Forced Narrative files must also be checked for redundancy if the Fulfillment Partner:
Has access to both the dubbed audio and Forced Narrative file, or
If the Fulfillment Partner created the dubbed audio
The Forced Narrative redundancy check is not required to be assigned to a native speaker, and can be performed by “in-house” staff to the best of their ability, subject to Netflix’s approval. The QC operator must review all Forced Narrative events and identify any audible narration during these events. The material should be rejected if redundancies are found.
If the NPFP is creating the dubbed audio, the Forced Narrative file will also need to be checked for completeness to ensure that there are no missing translations.
Any other scenario would not require the NPFP to check for completeness or redundancy, and will not impact NPFP delivery metrics.
Forced Narratives (Origination)
Service Type = “Create”
Adhere to all steps outlined in the Scope of Work for Timed Text - Origination.
If the NPFP is creating the dubbed audio, the Forced Narrative file will also need to be checked for completeness to ensure that there are no missing translations.
Any other scenario would not require the NPFP to check for completeness or redundancy, and will not impact NPFP delivery metrics.
Existing Audio Material (Printmaster / M&E / DME / Optionals) from Content Partners
Import the audio material into a media processing application that allows you to view the waveforms of each channel and check multiple tracks simultaneously.
Manual Spot QC of the audio material must include checks detailed in the Printmaster / M&E / DME/ Optionals Audio Manual QC Checklist. At minimum, the following 5 points must be included in the spot check:
First 2 minutes of program or through opening credits (whichever is longer)
1 minute at 25% into the program
1 minute at 50% into the program
1 minute at 75% into the program
Last 2 minutes of program including end credits.
Ensure each file is labeled correctly with the correct channel identifiers.
Verify all audio channels against Netflix Final Proxy to ensure the audio material is for the correct episode or feature.
A simple global offset is needed to conform to the Netflix Final Proxy available in Source Management.
Check the technical properties of WAV files to confirm adherence to the Netflix Delivery Specification.
